Artwear: Fashion and Anti-fashion

This retrospective exhibition looks at how wearable art has grown and changed from its beginnings as 1960s street style, to grand, one-of-a-kind woven, knitted and dyed garments that are equally at home on the body and on the wall, to the more fashion orientated works of the 1990s. It considers wearable art’s relationship both to the dress reform movements that preceded it and the contemporary fashions to which it relates. The exhibition also explores the performance aspect of art to wear, as well as its relationship to the popular use of unwearable garments as artistic metaphor.‘Come Dancing’
